Marlies Bugmann's Eclectic Creations

On the trails of the elusive Tassie Tiger

Ben and Dana, from Seattle, USA, visit the author of The Green Heart Books in Tasmania.
This Kangaroo Dog (thylacine) is prowling around the finish line of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, December 2006.
Kangaroo Dog is visitors' top 'dog' and gets more attention than the boat race.  Next to Hanoi, Chiang Mai, Hue, Angkor,  Fiji Queensland, New South Wales, their visit in Tasmania was 'a highlight among highlights' for the family on their world trip. We see each other on email regularly and Ben was recently proud to report that he was a huge success as 'Puck' in his school's play of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

Dana named all the animals in her wildlife preserve on a separate note; I've entered them on the digital copy shown here. Both drawings grace the wall next to my desk.

Children with a big heart for Tasmanian marsupials

Sun, 2 Mar 2008  --  Hello Marlies ... I thought I'd pass on a cute comment Ben made the other day.  We were sitting on the couch talking about what the kids would like to be when they grow up.  For Ben, it is easy.  He remains focussed on creatures, animals, monsters and the like ...  For Dana, it is a little harder.  She is an all-around girl.  Lately, she's said she wants to be an author, but an author of children's books ...[and she] ... was saying that she didn't want to be "just an author," but she wanted to "draw the pictures, too."  I commented that many authors of children's books are both authors and "illustrators," though that doesn't always happen.  I then explained what an illustrator is.  And Ben said, "like Marlies Bugmann."  And we all agreed that you are one of the best author/illustrators we've ever enjoyed.  All the best Marc.

Update from Seattle, USA
All the best for a happy and healthy 2010.  Marc, Marcy, Ben (12) and Dana (now 9 and soon to be 10).

December, 2010
We are sitting here on a rainy (very rainy) Sunday morning in Seattle.  There's a weather phenomenon known as the pineapple express barrelling its way through the Pacific Northwest, raising the temperature and dumping inches of rain on us.  We have a fire going and an American football game on the television.  Dana is holding our dog Honey in her lap and supervising my typing.

Today is Ben's 13th birthday...He's sprung up to 5-foot, 8-inches tall...Dana is now in 5th grade and is maturing into a wonderful young lady, while at the same time remaining oh so sweet and adventerous...
We enjoy keeping the memory of that time burning.
All the best for the holidays...  The Berejkas.
